Denver CO Homes for Sale | Denver Co Real Estate | Baker Historic District

Baker Historic District

Originally referred to as South Side or South Broadway, the beautiful, tree-lined community of Baker is situated in close proximity to both downtown Denver and major transportation routes. Located between Broadway, Alameda, 6th Avenue, and Mississippi, Baker encompasses 154 blocks and has easy access toDenver CO homes, Baker Historic District I-25. Baker’s first subdivisions were platted in 1872, but major development did not occur until after the annexation of South Side to Denver in 1883. Because of Baker’s central location and access to Broadway’s cable cars and Circle Railroad system, Baker’s original development was predominantly commercial and industrial. Development of Baker was completed in the mid-1950’s, but the community has been a focus of revitalization and several renovation projects recently in an effort to preserve and beautify the neighborhood.

Because of its beautiful, historic, 100 year old homes and its convenient location, Baker was designated a Historic District in 1985 and is attracting residents. Baker has experienced an 11% population increase, up from 5247 people in 1990 to 5810 people in 2000. Architectural styles abound and include a large number of homes of the appealing Queen Anne design, as well as the Denver Square, Arts-and-Craft, Dutch Colonial Revival and Victorian styles. Attractions to the neighborhood include the renovated and restored Denver landmark Mayan Theatre, one of Denver’s most unique buildings, and easy access to art galleries, boutiques, bars, bookstores, and theaters.
